The Haven Wolverhampton
The Haven Wolverhampton supports women and children who are vulnerable to violence and abuse. The registered charity was established in 1973 with the aim to provide support services to women and children affected by Domestic Violence and Homelessness. As one of the largest independent charities in the UK and one of the largest providers of refuge, The Haven is recognised as a leader in Domestic Violence provision offering both refuge and community based support services.
Services at The Haven include:
• 24 Hour Domestic Violence Helpline – Wolverhampton’s first and only Domestic Violence helpline was established by The Haven in April 2009 and is staffed by professional, trained staff and volunteers 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
• Emergency Temporary Refuge – The Haven has a total of 5 refuges across the City of Wolverhampton which provide 24 Hour staff support and offer security and confidentiality.
• Community Advocacy Support – tailored for women who wish to remain in their own homes and offers safety planning and support in maintaining a tenancy. This service also supports women who wish to take their cases through the UK criminal justice system.
• Counselling – Both generic and specialist counselling support is provided to both residents and those living in the community. The Haven employs specialist counsellors to support child victims of Domestic Violence and women and children with physical and/or learning difficulties.
• Children and Young People’s Support Service – for children aged from 0 to 16 providing therapeutic play sessions to help children come to terms with their experiences of abuse.
• Resettlement – designed to assist women leaving refuge and setting up home in the community.
Domestic Violence is thought to affect 1 in 4 women in the UK. 2 women a week are killed at the hands of a partner, former partner or family member. It is also estimated that in 90% of incidents of Domestic Violence children are present in the same or next room (Women’s Aid 2004).
The Haven relies heavily on the support of volunteers and generous donors to dedicate time and/or financial contributions to allow the charity to continue to provide quality services to women and children affected by Domestic Violence and Homelessness.
Your donation will assist The Haven in its mission to support women and children who are vulnerable to violence and abuse.
