the donor’s credit card statement will show “Charities Trust” as the name of the recipient..
This is a key question and it's an area that we’ll always be working to improve. On average a charity will receive just over 116% of the money that’s donated – 16% more than the donation!
This is because the most, but not all, of donations qualify for Gift Aid which adds 28%, courtesy of the tax-office.
We’ve designed the Dinner4Good system so that it’s very secure and so that as much money as possible is received by the charity you’re supporting.
The main things we aim to achieve are:
Two of the key partners that help us achieve this are Everyclick Ltd and the Charities Trust. Charities Trust is a registered charity (registration number 327489) and will hold the on-line donations whilst they claim the Gift Aid. They then pass the money to your chosen charity – on a monthly basis.
The cost of running this service by Charities Trust, Everyclick and ourselves comes to less than 10% of the money that’s sent to the charity. On average, charities spend 15%-25% of their income on fundraising (click here1 for details) so Dinner4Good offers really good value to charities.
Everyclick and Charities Trust charge 4.8% (in total between them) of the donation and 0% of the Gift Aid to cover the credit card processing, banking and money transfers charges.
Dinner4Good’s hosting fee is approximately 5%. It’s actually 6.25% of the donation and 0% of the Gift Aid – and as 90% of donations are eligible for Gift Aid (according to Just Giving), this works out to be 5% on average. This charge allows us to build and operate the website, make sure it runs smoothly and give help to the charities so that they get as much benefit as possible.
The table below shows a summary this. We’ve used an example with £100 so it’s easy to see the percentages!
| Item | Value | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Example donation from dinner party | £100.00 | £100.00 |
| Gift Aid (+28%) | +£28.00 | £128.00 |
| Credit card and transaction charges (4.8%) | -£4.80 | £123.20 |
